Once again, Takata, a car airbag company, has failed its customers. This time, Toyota and Lexus cars are being recalled across Russia, representatives of Rosstandart reported. The same situation with the recall of cars is happening all over the world and applies not only to Japanese cars.
As it became known, 84,257 Toyota and Lexus cars will be sent to replace and fix airbag problems. Toyota Motors is the first to start, with Toyota Hilux, Corolla and Auris falling under the service company. Lexus has also published model lists: IS, ES and GX. These cars were sold in Russia in the period from February 28, 2011 to June 27, 2018. The main reason for such a service company was the incorrect deployment of the front passenger's or driver's airbags at the time of an accident. The problem lies in the gas generator, depending on the situation, the situation may not work, or individual parts may shoot at the drivers or passenger. To date, more than 20 fatal cases of such an engineer error and a large number of injuries have already been recorded. As representatives explained, specialists will replace the gas generator in the cars, and all repair work and parts will be free for car owners.
For the first time, the problem with Takata airbags became known back in 2014 and only three years later, in 2017, the manufacturer admitted his guilt. The same mistakes were made in production from 2000 to 2015. As a result, Takata must pay a $ 1 billion fine, and about $ 25 million will go to pay fines.
The remaining $ 975 million will be transferred as compensation for damage, including to the families of the affected car owners. Last year, Toyota already announced the same Takata airbag replacement service company. Then the Yaris, Corolla, Alphard and Auris models sold in the period from 2010 to 2015 fell under the recall in Russia.
