During the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the German carmaker Opel AG presented the most powerful modification of the second generation Opel Insignia, which received the GSi prefix.

Unlike the regular Insignia, which debuted on the world stage in March 2017, the new product received a more aggressive appearance, a number of changes in the interior and management, as well as a more efficient power unit that instantly takes the car off the ground and leaves behind most of the main competitors.

Running a little ahead, we note that the Opel Insignia GSi was on the main loop of the Nurburgring much faster than the more productive 325-strong modification of the Insignia OPC, which was achieved due to a decrease in the total weight of the car by as much as 160 kg.

Opel Insignia GSi 2018 exterior

Despite the fact that the usual Opel Insignia impressed with its beauty and grace, German designers managed to make the GSi version even more dynamic, attractive and memorable.

The main differences lie in the front part of the body, where the manufacturer installed a more aggressive front bumper with a pair of spectacularly designed vertical air intakes spaced around the edges of the bumper. The matrix head optics of IntelliLux, a stylish false radiator grille and an embossed hood remained in place.

New product profile It exactly repeats that in the standard version of the 2nd generation Insignia, the only exceptions are light-alloy wheels R20 (R18 in the basic version), which have received a special design.

Knocked down and fit feed auto received a larger spoiler, as well as a modified rear bumper, in which a pair of vertical foglights, an aggressive diffuser and two exhaust system barrels were mounted, once again reminding of the impressive dynamic capabilities of the model.

External dimensions of the body remained unchanged:

  • Length - 4.897 m;
  • Width – 1,863;
  • Height - 1.469 m.

Also, the length of the wheelbase, which is 2.829 m, has not changed and allows five adult riders to be easily accommodated in the cabin.

In order to meet the needs of the maximum number of potential buyers, the manufacturer offers a wide range of body colors. Note that the choice of buyers is also offered two options for the body - a hatchback and a station wagon, where the latter is distinguished by a different stern and differently decorated parking lights.

Insignia GSi interior

The salon of the “GSi” version almost completely repeats that of the standard Opel Insignia, which means it has an attractive design, well-thought-out ergonomics, a large number of modern equipment and high-quality finishing materials.

Driver's seat represented by a digital instrument cluster, as well as a sporty truncated multifunction steering wheel trimmed with perforated leather (one of the features of the GSi version).

In the central part of the front dashboard, slightly turned towards the driver's seat, there is a large multi-touch display of the IntelliLink multimedia system (there is a navigation system, as well as support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), a small audio system control panel and a laconic climate control unit.

As already mentioned, the quality of the materials is at a very high level, the same can be said about the assembly, which is in no way inferior to cars of a higher class and, accordingly, a higher cost.

One of the key differences between the GSi version and the usual Insignia is the presence of sports chairs with integrated head restraints, which have excellent lateral support and allow a person of any size and height to easily sit down.

Didn't disappoint and second row of seats, which, even if it is profiled for two passengers, can easily accommodate three adult riders, and even people whose height exceeds 1.9 m will be comfortable here.

Amenities include a folding center armrest and separate air vents. It is also worth mentioning that the rear sofa can be folded in a ratio of 40 to 60, thus obtaining a perfectly flat loading area.

Trunk volume in the standard layout of the rear sofa it is 490 liters, and with the second row backs folded down - an impressive 1450 liters.

Specifications Opel Insignia GSi 2018

The standard Opel Insignia can be powered by a pair of petrol and diesel power units, the power of which varies between 110 and 260 hp. All motors have excellent dynamic characteristics and a high level of efficiency, and it would seem that it is simply impossible to make them even better, but Opel AG engineers did not agree with this opinion ...

As a result, the Opel Insignia GSi received even more powerful and technologically advanced engines:

  1. A turbocharged 2-liter petrol engine that reproduces 260 "horses" and a maximum 400 Nm of torque. The "partner" of such a power unit is a modern 8-speed automatic transmission, with which the car is capable of developing a maximum 250 km / h. Note that the hatchback needs 7.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100. or 7.5 sec. - for the station wagon version. Fuel consumption in combined mode does not exceed 8.6 l / 100 km of distance traveled.
  2. Biturbo 2-liter diesel with 210 "horses" and an impressive 480 Nm of peak thrust. A pair of it is a gearbox similar to a gasoline engine, accelerating the car to a maximum of 233 km / h. It will take 7.9 seconds to change the first hundred, and the average fuel consumption varies between 7-7.3 l / 100 km.

Note that after a while, the top diesel engine will be available on the standard version of the Opel Insignia, including a special all-terrain version of the Country Tourer.

The novelty is based on the proprietary E2XX trolley, familiar from the latest generation Chevrolet Malibu sedan. In the arsenal of the car, a fully independent suspension is represented by MacPherson struts in the front, and a five-link architecture at the rear.

Also, the car is equipped with an adaptive all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring, thanks to which excellent controllability and dynamics are achieved, regardless of the type of roadway located under the wheels of the car.

Another "feature" of the new Insignia is the FlexRide chassis., capable of adjusting the shock absorbers in a fraction of a second, as well as adapting the steering and response to pressing the gas pedal, depending on the selected control mode - Standard, Tour, Sport and Competition, specially developed for the GSi version.

Among other things, the car is aggregated by the matrix head optics IntelliLux LED, which can automatically turn on the high beam when it reaches a speed of 50 km / h and turn it off if the speed is less than 35 km / h. This system prevents oncoming drivers from dazzling and completely eliminates dark areas on tight bends, which makes driving even more comfortable and safe.

Steering equipped with an electric booster, and the braking system is represented by disc mechanisms of all wheels (with ventilation on the front axle).
