The legendary Mercedes G-Class SUV, which was previously considered an ideal and practically did not break down, is now gradually losing its position and rating. According to available information, a batch of defective Gelendvagens was sold in Russia again. Most of the vehicles recalled were manufactured between May and November 2018. Subsequently, SUVs were sold in official dealerships. The reason for the recall and marriage of Gelendvagen was the wiring in the front doors. No matter how strange it may seem, it simply cracks and frays. As a result of a malfunction, the side airbags may not deploy, and in the worst case, the doors will not open in an accident (emergency door opening).

Earlier, the new Mercedes Gelendvagen had already been recalled due to an oil leak in the turbocharger, which could also lead to engine seizure and fire. Recall that back in September 2018, Daimler started talking about an internal investigation, which spoke about complaints from owners regarding the failure of side airbags. As a rule, the corresponding icon initially appeared on the dashboard, which accordingly indicated possible side problems. As a result, a wire break was found in the harness that enters the front doors (in the area of the door hinges). Most likely, the engineers missed something, and despite the protective casing, the wires constantly rub against the metal surface when the doors are opened or closed. For a long time, Mercedes specialists could not figure out how to solve this problem, because in addition to replacing the wiring or repairing it, it is necessary to get rid of the hearth so that a similar situation does not happen again. In the United States, 2,427 Gelendvagen SUVs, manufactured in 2019, were recalled with this problem. In Russia, such a service campaign has appeared only now, the list includes 494 cars of this model. All VIN numbers of Mercedes Gelendvagen are already displayed on the Rosstandart website.

An interesting fact remains, on the website of the Russian regulator there is a scant description regarding the solution to the problem with Gelendvagen. Representatives recommend replacing the casing and damaged wires, if this does not help, then it is worth replacing the entire wiring harness. It should be understood that the cost of a new Gelendvagen car is not small and starts at 7,940,000 rubles, but no one says how to fix the problem. In the United States, they have completely taken a different path, the owners of problematic Gelledvagens are offered to insulate each wire with electrical tape separately, then the whole bundle together and this whole "sandwich" should be placed in an additional casing for greater protection.

It is much worse when a malfunction indicator has already appeared on the dashboard. In this case, the owner of Gelendvagen will have to completely remove the door cards and change the entire assembly assembly (a new wiring harness, along with the mount). All repairs should take no more than an hour, in Russia they do not specify all the details of the procedure, but it is known that everything will be free. Recall that this is not the first and most likely not the last breakdown of a Mercedes Gelendvagen SUV in Russia, in addition to the turbocharger, there were problems with ABS, ESP, seat belts and a glitch of the engine ECU. Most likely, this is not the last breakdown and we should expect a continuation.
