Opel and Vauxhall will no longer produce the Astra GTC and Zafira models. Cars became not in demand on the market, which significantly affected the sales statistics.

If with the generation of the Astra GTC J there were good sales figures, then the new generation K changed the statistics for the worse. In some countries, the Astra GTC is simply not in demand.
According to information from various sources, the sharp rise in the popularity of crossovers and SUVs has completely suspended sales of the Astra GTC. During the release of the last generation, 40,000 copies were sold, which can be considered a tiny fraction in comparison with the manufacturer's plans. A similar situation has affected the family minivan Zafira, the car has ceased to be in demand at all. Many say that the appearance of the new Opel Grandland X crossover from PSA-Group immediately recaptured customers of the three-door and minivan. The family three-row Opel Zafira minivan has been produced since 2011, and has become a very popular car in some circles of drivers. But with the emergence and rapid growth of the popularity of crossovers (SUVs), the minivan, like the Astra GTC, receded into the background, while the manufacturer, not paying attention, made a bias towards the development of crossovers. Taking into account the changes in the laws of some states, instead of Astra GTC and Zafira, the manufacturer actively began development in the direction of electric vehicles, in particular e-Corsa, as the manufacturer calls it. In other words, the release of the Astra GTC and Zafira has come to an unprofitable state, besides the popularity of new crossovers and SUVs has done its job in the production of directed cars.
Presumably, the new Opel e-Corsa will be officially shown to the public no earlier than 2020, calling it the sixth generation of a compact hatchback. As statistics show, based on the EMP2 platform, about 13 million Astra GTC cars and a Zafira minivan were produced. Such indicators make it possible to understand the sales picture much better. The manufacturer does not name the rest of the nuances of stopping the production of cars of these brands. What exactly will replace the compact Astra GTC and the Zafira minivan, the manufacturer will announce closer to the complete cessation of production of the models.
