In February 2019, a completely new 7th generation Subaru Legacy was presented in Chicago, which the manufacturer himself calls the most advanced Legacy in the 30-year history of the model's existence. And indeed, apart from the evolution of design, the car was created almost from a "blank sheet": a new platform, new efficient motors and functionality previously not available even as an option.

External appearance

The exterior of the new Subaru Legacy is made in accordance with the corporate design philosophy, which bears the name "Dynamic X-Solid", which can be translated as "dynamics and value."

The car looks fresh, dynamic and moderately representative. The front part of the body demonstrates formidable head optics, a 6-angle false radiator grille and a powerful front bumper, complemented by a trapezoidal air intake and neat foglights.

The sedan's profile has dynamic and balanced proportions: a long bonnet, sloping roof, elegant sidewalls and circular wheel arches, which can be fitted with 17-18 ”alloy wheels.

The trimmed rear of the sedan flaunts massive side light shades, a small spoiler lip mounted on the trunk edge, and an expressive pseudo-diffuser, complemented by two exhaust pipes.

External dimensions exactly correspond to the D-class criteria:

Length, mm4840
Width, mm1840
Height, mm1500
Wheelbase, mm2750

The exact height of the ground clearance is unknown, but it can be assumed that it repeats that of its predecessor - 150 mm.

The manufacturer offers customers a choice between 7 body colors, among which the colors of the greatest interest are: Abyss Blue Pearl, Crimson Red Pearl and Magnetite Gray Metallic.

Legacy interior

Compared to its predecessor, the interior of the car has undergone dramatic changes, with a modern front fascia, first-class materials and impeccable workmanship.

Looking into the cabin, the first thing that catches your eye is the vertically oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen display of the media information center, with the help of which almost all available systems are controlled.

For added convenience, there are several mechanical buttons on both sides of the display, including an alarm button. True, it is worth noting that such a screen is the lot of top-end configurations, while in the basic version it is replaced by two 7-inch monitors, where the first is responsible for managing multimedia capabilities, and the second for climate control.

In front of the driver is an analog-digital instrument panel and a spectacular three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with the brand's logo in the center.

Front riders are offered high-quality and comfortable seats with a wide range of adjustments, heating and other benefits of civilization. A wide armrest is located between the chairs, inside of which there is a spacious compartment for various luggage.

The rear sofa offers ample space to accommodate three adults. Amenities include a separate air duct unit, an outlet and a folding center armrest.

The luggage compartment of a car is standardly equal to 428 liters, while it boasts the correct shape, which has a positive effect on its real spaciousness. If necessary, the owner can lower the backrests of the rear sofa in a ratio of 40:60 and increase the volume of the trunk at least 2 times. The only frustrating thing is the lack of a flat loading area.

Specifications Subaru Legacy 2020

The new Subaru Legacy is powered by one of two gasoline-boxer engines, equipped with a direct fuel injection system and a 16-valve timing:

  1. 2.5-liter aspirated, developing 185 "horses" and 239 Nm of torque, available at 5800 and 4400 rpm, respectively.
  2. 2.4-liter turbo petrol engine equipped with an intercooler and Subaru DAVC technology. As a result, the motor produces 264 hp. with. and 376 Nm of torque, which are available at 5600 and 2000-4800 rpm, respectively.

Regardless of the power of the power plant, its partner is the Lineatronic wedge-chain variator, which simulates an 8-speed gearbox and is supplemented with gearshift paddles.

Also, already in the base, the car is equipped with an all-wheel drive with a multi-plate clutch and an ATV system, which are responsible for traction control. According to the available data, the "younger" motor exchanges the first "hundred" in 8.4 seconds, and the second does the same in 6.1 seconds.

The combined fuel consumption in the first case is 7.7 l / 100 km, and in the second - 8.6 l for every 100 km of distance traveled.

At the heart of the 7th generation Subaru Legacy is the new SGP "bogie", which assumes a longitudinal arrangement of the power plant and the presence of a monocoque body, which is mostly made of high-strength grades of steel. The front suspension is represented by MacPherson struts with L-shaped arms made of "winged" metal and a double wishbone with a hollow anti-roll bar on the rear axle.

The car sports a rack-and-pinion steering, supplemented by an active electric power steering. Disc mechanisms (front ones with ventilation function), supplemented by a mass of modern "lotions", are responsible for slowing down the car.

Conclusion

The Subaru Legacy is an attractive, dynamic and well-equipped car that, while not claiming to be a bestseller, will definitely find its buyer.

This is a car that offers the best balance between dynamic performance, price and true Japanese quality. But, unfortunately, the novelty is unlikely to reach the domestic market, because our Subaru cars are moderately popular.
