Seat unveiled a new sports station wagon that took the championship away from the Audi RS4 Avant, setting a new Nürnburgring Northern loop record for station wagons - 7:58.

At MMAC 2014, the hot hatch Seat Leon Cupra was presented - a charged station wagon from the VW Group. According to company representatives, this is a "sports car for every day." However, this was not enough for them, and in early 2015 a charged four-door version of the Seat Leon ST Cupra was presented. Let's see what is so special about it.

As always, let's start with an overview of the exterior. In general terms, the same Seat Leon is visible, however, many little things that make up the overall style have been changed. Stylish headlights with xenon headlights vaguely resemble Audi, it's not for nothing that this is the VW Group.

The front is sharp in the spirit of Leon, the sloping hood smoothly passes into the struts, along which stretch aluminum roof rails. The "hot" version of the station wagon is distinguished from the road version by several details. Of course, this is mainly the aerodynamic body kit. Cellular radiator grille with large sections, the same inserts in the side air ducts. The same can be seen at the stern - there is nothing superfluous here: a neat bumper, oval exhaust pipes in chrome and an "ST" badge on the tailgate.

The interior of the new Seat Leon ST Cupra is not much different from the hatchbacks, however, let's look at it in more detail. The dashboard included only the most necessary: ​​a large speedometer, a tachometer next to it, and between them, in the spirit of Skoda, there is an information display of the on-board computer.

The center console is completely occupied with the internal climate settings, by the way, the climate control is dual-zone. Not to say that this is a huge plus, which significantly adds value, but a nice little thing. Anyway, almost all the control buttons of the Seat Leon ST Cupra are located here, including the alarm button.

The center console is crowned with a multimedia center with an MP3 changer and a 7.5-inch touchscreen display, along the edges of which function buttons are placed. All this is edged with polished plastic.

Now I would like to tell you about the main differences between the "charged" station wagon Seat Leon ST Cupra 2015. First of all, the color inserts are striking, which make the interior more sporty, admittedly, much more fun. The steering wheel is truncated, which allows for equal dimensions to move the driver's seat forward, more on it later, but, of course, its main purpose is to emphasize the sporty style. It has radio control buttons, and the vertical spoke has the same “ST” nameplate as on the tailgate.

As for the seats, buckets are optionally offered for the Seat Leon ST Cupra. True, it will cost about 5,000 euros. In general, they will come in handy given the nature of the car.

And finally, let's talk about the most important advantage of this car. Considering all the specs and results of the 2015 Seat Leon ST Cupra, it's hard to believe. If the cabin is equipped with all passengers, then 587 liters of cargo can be stowed in the trunk. If the driver is alone, or only with a front passenger, then this volume increases to 1470 liters. It would seem that there is nothing supernatural, however, if you put the volume of 1470 liters and 6 seconds to a hundred, it will seem incredible. Everyone is accustomed to the fact that a station wagon is a family car, in which you have to waddle around so that the suspension does not suffer, as well as the passengers in the cabin. According to the engineers, they managed to combine the positive aspects of direct and distributed injection, significantly increased the resource and reliability of the injectors and the high-pressure pump. How this was achieved is silent. However, the numbers speak for themselves.

The first power unit is deformed, develops 265 horsepower at 5500 rpm. Its torque is 350 Nm, which can be fully used already at 1,700 rpm. Of course, 16 valves per 4 cylinders, DOHC gas distribution system.

The second motor is stronger - 280 horses. It develops the same 350 Nm and accelerates a wagon weighing 1391 kg to a hundred in 6.1 seconds in the top configuration on the mechanics, about the transmission a little later. So, in both versions, the maximum speed is limited by an electronic limiter, which, by tradition and generally accepted standards, is set at 250 km / h. Agree, for a station wagon, in which you can shove almost 1.5 cubic meters of things, it's not bad at all.

This point is worthy of closer examination. For starters, any version of the 2015 Seat Leon ST Cupra comes with a limited-slip front differential. Moreover, this is not an imitation with the help of ABS, but a full-fledged multi-disc differential, which, according to engineers, is significantly superior to LSD, primarily in terms of resource.

One of two gearboxes can be installed on the car. The first is a 6-speed manual transmission. The second is a similar robot DSG. Of course, the robot does not get the same driving pleasure as mechanics. A noteworthy point is the fact that the stabilization system can be turned off almost completely on the car, however, ESP will remain to help in any case, because the character of the "sport-versatile" is far from childish.

For connoisseurs of the brand, Seat's departure from the Russian market was a strong blow. According to a company representative, all the cases are in small sales, however, experts believe that the matter is in the strong devaluation of the ruble. This is the "dark side" that one can only guess about. As for the prices for Europe, they start at 32,950 €. For this amount, the buyer receives a version of the Seat Leon Cupra ST 265. But the company has allocated a quota for the "weak version" of only 10% of all sales.

I must admit that this car has a great future, as Seat has well defined a niche for its new product. So, for example, a weaker Skoda Octavia Combi RS will cost 31,150 €, and a 220-horsepower Ford Focus RS will cost about 30,500 €. The fact is that the new Cupra ST is slightly higher in their class, but it is not as expensive as, for example, the 300-horsepower VW Golf Variant R, which costs more than 42,000 € in the base.
